Were you the kid who would write diary everyday once you get back from school? I was one.
Journaling or simply writing a diary seems to be simple task, isn't it? But, what if I said that you have to write something every single day? Finding time to sit and introspect yourself daily is not everyone's cup of tea, although we can spend hours together browsing someone else's life on social media. As years passed, this was my fate too. Even I had stopped writing journals after school. Until recently, when I came across one of my old diary's I felt why not start writing again. Taking out 10 minutes out of 24 hours is not all that difficult. And once it becomes a habit it is just like brushing your teeth! coz good habits make time your ally.
Everyone have their own reason why and how they would want to journal. It need not be just a bullet journal telling what you did the whole day, it can be an art journal filled with drawings, a dream journal describing your dreams and bucket-lists, a prayer journal where you talk to god and thank him for whatever you have, a food journal, a travel journal, a gratitude journal, an idea journal, a poetry journal and many more. You can maintain a mix of these journals just like me.
A journal/diary is a friend you can daily count on. So I believe its good to have a physical book maintained rather than any e-notebook. Coz when you sit and write, the frequency at which your mind and your hand coordinates is completely different. When all my thoughts are arranged together to write something, I write everything that comes to my mind. Whatever I write today is a memory that I lived or something that I will relive in future. It's a great tool of retrospection every night. Meditation immediately after writing a journal becomes much more easier since the thoughts are already centered writing it down than it used to be earlier. I have personally experienced that with journaling how my creativity, communication, self-reflection, clarity of thoughts and goal setting has become much more clearer with time. Its a great stress buster end of day when you share everything with your diary.
Addressing my journal with a salutation, Dear Diary..., every single day makes me feel that Im sitting in front of my friend/myself/sometimes my version of god. Discussing random stuffs, admitting my confessions if any, making a note of today's hits/misses and plotting a list of tasks to accomplish tomorrow. Develop this simple habit of journaling today and experience many intangible benefits tomorrow!
