With a lot of bookworms out there, I know how important it is to have bookmarks.

When you're so indulged in reading and you step out for a bit to complete a daily chore. Coming back you are left in a panic attack witnessing someone has closed the book. How annoying! And then there are instances when someone borrows your book and when it comes back, it has page folds resembling dog ears all over. Horrible! Nobody would want their favorite book to be defiled.

Growing up as a kid I was surrounded by avid readers around me. Be it home or at school. That naturally made me fall in love with the books. Those days I used to read a lot of books, write articles and journals. With passing years there are a lot of things we leave behind and in my case I had lost that connection with books and articles.

I have penned a couple of blog posts earlier talking about my lockdown days. Now that we are going through tough times where everything has taken a pause, it was like an eye opener for me to start things what I had left behind all these years. Yes, Im trying to seek solace in books and journals yet again. And this journey so far is been so exciting. Maybe, I can write a blog soon talking about some of the books I was moved by reading in this lockdown.., yeah?

Too much background for bookmarks, eh? Of course the post is not about me. It's about those little bookmarks resting next to the books in the image above. As much as I love books, I hate keeping track of the page before leaving it alone. Also, I hate making dog ears with my books. And so I started making these fun bookmarks. As I was making them, I thought it was cool and I should share it. Here we go.

There are a lot of ways one can make a bookmark. I went for some basic ones with the items I had handy at home.

All you need is,

  • A4 size watercolor sheet

  • Brustro Professional Pigment Based Fineliner Highlighter Pens

  • Watercolors and a brush

  • Stationery that includes pencil and an eraser

OPTION 1: Watercolor Bookmark

Step1:

To begin with take a sheet of A4 size watercolor paper. Divide it into 4 equal halves. I'm using 300 gsm paper here, if you don't have it any A4 sheet should be fine.

Step2:

Grab one of those 4 pieces. Add some meaningful wordings and simple doodles of your choice. I have gone for a cute little bunny telling me to come back soon to him.

Step3:

Once the outline is ready, color it with watercolor of your choice. To enhance the doodles and wordings I have highlighted them using the highlighter markers. Highlighting is again a personal choice and can be skipped.

And voila, you're done. Similarly, I have created some more watercolor bookmarks, have a look. If you want to get more creative you can even add some tassels or pom poms to complement the bookmarks. I have kept them basic.

OPTION 2: Highlighter Pen Bookmark

In case, if you do not have watercolors nothing to worry. Meaningful bookmarks can be created with pens as well. Checkout my bookmark attempt with the highlighter pens. I have gone for a dandelion doodle here. These are easy, yet so satisfying.

I hope you like my basic bookmark collection. Do give them a try so that you can concentrate more on the book rather than tracking the last page read.

Have reading!
