When was the last time you saw our national flag flying high up in the air? For me, it was more than a year ago.

Today, when I went on a walk in the morning I could see more flags than people on road. Now that, is a rare sight on a Monday morning in Bangalore City. Almost every house, shop, circle and even the electric poles had the national flag tied to it. Today marks the 75th year of Independence and the site was no less than a festival of some sorts. Kids had their faces painted with the Indian flag, clothing stores had their mannequins dressed in tricolor and the restaurants had their outlets decorated with Orange white and green balloons.
It's been a while since I passed out of school and since then the relation with Independence day has been limited to just another mandatory holiday from the regular office work. If it falls on a Monday or a Friday make some long vacation plan, or if it falls somewhere around mid week then just sleep, Netflix and chill. Somewhere around evening while watching news, when they show the officials hoisting the flag I would remember my school days. The school assembly, flag hoisting, cultural activities and the yellow Laddu at the end of it.
To be honest, I'm a bit skeptical how these people will respectfully manage to remove these hundreds of flags they have positioned all over the streets for this day once it is all done. Nonetheless, for me this Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is a commendable initiative. With such a diverse nation as ours, events like these will unite us, instill a sense of pride for the flag and encourages its citizens to do better for the country in the days to come.
