In the year 2020, I conducted a survey among 3 males in my family. My dad, my brother and my husband. Survey goes like this. 'Name that one person you miss the most in this quarantine'. There was 1 unanimous answer. And that was, 'A humble barber!'

Personally my hair is growing strong day after day. So much so that, they now reach my buttocks. But I never really feel anything. Unlike, the guys I know say that if their hair grows by an inch or so they find themselves carrying something very heavy on their head. Not just that, poor guys also experience some unusual symptoms like headache, cold and fever!

Quarantine has given makeover to a lot of guys. So many hairstyles to name. Some have become Ghajinis, some Yash, some Dhoni and last but not the least some have opted for the famous Katappa hairstyle too!

The one thing for which wife's have gained importance in 2020 be it celebrity or a commoner is for being their husband's barber. No salons, No barbers and no stepping out of home. That's when the ladies of the home come to rescue. After all we have a solution to anything and everything.

I remember the first haircut I gave my husband. He made sure that I make prior preparations before touching his hair. I had to read blogs and watch youtube videos to prepare myself for the mission ahead.Out of different blog posts I went through there was one post whose title I can still recall. 'How to cut your spouse's hair during coronavirus and not get divorced!'

With all the research and getting myself certified as a verified barber from the google university I finally got the opportunity to cut his hair. As soon as I cut a few strands at the back he exclaimed, 'Man, my head already feels so light!'. Those poor strands would've hardly weighed a few milligrams. I felt that maybe the happiness was due to the feeling of the hair being cut by someone than the actual haircut itself, to be precise. Of course it did not go all that as planned. There were obviously patches here and there as if cockroach had eaten up some extra parts. I thought he wouldn't notice since its at the back but no, he did!

Now that I have given 5 haircuts already there is nowhere to hide. But as all the arts you get better and better at the barber art as well with every haircut. I have come up with 3 thumb rules of a good haircut in quarantine. One, make sure the hair at the back is finely cut until your fingers cant get hold of them. Two, cut the hair as short as possible around the ears and impress them by getting a nice line from back all the way around the ear till the front. Three, give a classic U cut to the front hair an inch above the eye brows so that the top bush is intact. More than this anything you do are add-ons. Voila! these are my findings from the thesis of 'Becoming a barber in 2020'. If you master these you have a great future ahead too just like me.

Yours truly, A humble quarantine barber!
